COLUMBUS —Last minute tax filers beware. Due to a water line construction project currently underway on Twin Rivers Drive, Columbus’ Main Post Office located at 850 Twin Rivers Dr., will be open only during regular retail hours from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on April 15th.
However, customers may drop off tax returns at the Columbus Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC), 2323 Citygate Dr. in Columbus off of Stelzer Road near the Port Columbus International Airport up until midnight. Workers will be outside collecting mail from 6:00 p.m. to 12 a.m. Police personnel will be on hand to help guide customers. No retail services will be available at the Columbus P&DC.
Retail services will be available at the Port Columbus Station, 4299 Sawyer Rd. The Port Columbus Station will observe regular hours from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Police personnel will also be on hand at the Port Columbus Station to ensure an orderly traffic flow along Sawyer Road. USPS personnel will be stationed outside of the postal facility to help collect the tax returns of passing motorists beginning late in the afternoon.
All other central, eastern and southern Ohio Post Offices will be open only during normal business hours. Mail from collection mail boxes will also be collected only during normal posted collection times. This includes mail dropped off at Automated Postal Center (APC) locations. Tax mail must be dropped off prior to the last posted collection times at individual APC locations.
The most common mistakes Americans make in mailing their forms are not including enough
postage and not providing the correct IRS mailing address or their return address. After the first ounce, which usually covers about four, letter-sized sheets, mailers need to add 17 cents for each additional ounce.
Customers should also consider using Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation to confirm tax returns are delivered. Delivery Confirmation is not available for First Class envelopes. If using a First Class envelope, mailers should use Certified Mail or Registered Mail for proof of delivery.
Any stamped mail weighing 13 ounces or more must be mailed from a retail window or from an APC. Customers can locate one of 23 central Ohio APC locations by visiting usps.com and clicking on locate a Post Office; search under what (Automated Postal Center (APC) by ZIP or by address.
