OHIO’S FIRST VILLAGE POST OFFICE (VPO) OPENS

Public invited to grand opening of the Shauck, Ohio, Village Post Office

April 16, 2012

SHAUCK — On Friday, April 20, Postal officials will cut the ribbon on the first Village Post Office (VPO) in Ohio at Marvin's Village Market, 7500 County Road 242, Shauck, OH 43349.

The public is invited to a grand opening ceremony on Friday at 10 am, to be led by Postal Service Cincinnati District Manager, Chu Falling-Star. Eastern Area Marketing Manager Jesus Galvez, Cincinnati District Manager Kathy Chenkovich, Cincinnati Post Office Operations Manager Kathleen Sherred and local county officials are expected to be in attendance.

Through the Postal Service’s VPO partnership with Marvin’s Village Market, local residents and businesses in Shauck will enjoy the convenience of a Post Office. The Shauck Village Post Office will sell booklets of Forever stamps at face value, provide Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes, and accept postage-paid packages for mailing. The first day of operation is Friday, April 20.

Hours of operation of the Shauck VPO will be 8:00 am - 8:00 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and 8:00 am – 7:00 pm on Wednesday and Friday. The location at Marvin’s Village Market will provide customers time-saving convenience and will continue to be an important example of how the Postal Service is changing to better meet America’s needs. Marvin's Village Market is considered a hub for the community of Shauck.

The Village Post Office is an exciting new concept for USPS. The Postal Service unveiled the Village Post Office concept last spring for consideration in communities which have no Post Office or lost a Post Office. VPOs are designed for non-Postal Service establishments, such as an existing community business, town hall or government center. The VPO provides a specific range of services that include the sale of First-Class postage stamps, offering Priority Mail products and accepting mail.

The Postal Service acknowledges the contributions Marvin’s Village Market owner Randolph Martin who helped make the VPO in Shauck possible. Business establishments interested in applying for a contract with the Postal Service to start a Village Post Office in their local community should contact: vpo.inquiry@usps.gov or call 888-711-7577.
