YOUNGSTOWN – Thomas Kerns has been named the 34th Postmaster of Youngstown. Effective April 21, 2012, Kerns will be responsible for overseeing mail collection, delivery services, and retail operations in Youngstown, Austintown, Boardman, Poland and Liberty Township. The 278 employees of the Youngstown Post Office deliver to 82,716 residential and businesses addresses.
Kerns began his career in 1986 as a letter carrier in Springfield, Ohio and later transferred to Warren. From there Kerns accepted positions of increasing responsibility including Supervisor of Customer Service for the Niles and Cortland Post Offices, Manager of Customer Service for the Warren Parcel Post Annex, Postmaster of Warren, and USPS Manager of Post Office Operations for the Northern Ohio District. He has also served as Management Team Leader for the Akron District Joint Route Inspection Team and acting Postmaster of the Hubbard, Niles, Warren, and Youngstown Post Offices.
A native of Warren, Ohio, Kerns is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He and his wife currently reside in Niles. They have three grown children.
