BACKGROUND: |
West Worthington Letter Carriers Michael Jasiewicz, Michael D’ Anniballe, Keith Maloney, John Ishler and Larry Holman have joined an elite group of Postal Service employees to individually drive more than a million, accident-free miles. They will receive recognition during a ceremony (media welcome to attend) beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the West Worthington Branch Post Office, 6316 Nicholas Drive, West Worthington, OH 44235. The National Safety Council’s Million Mile Award recognizes professional drivers who have not had an at-fault accident for 30 years or more of their driving career. According to the National Safety Council, the Safe Driver Award is the trademark of the expert driver and is recognized as the nation’s highest award for professional safe driving. Safe postal driving practices, like using seat belts, speed reduction, refraining from the use of hands-free devices that lead distracted driving and general defensive driving techniques, are among the Council’s tips for safe driving. The nation’s 31600 Post Offices are linked by nearly 215,000 vehicles – one of the largest civilian fleets in the world. More than 300,000 letter carriers and truck drivers log more than 2.3 billion miles annually when delivering to America’s 155 million addresses. When postal drivers are included in this exclusive club, it sends a clear message to the customer that letter carriers and all postal drivers put safety first when traveling the streets of the communities they serve. According to the National Safety Council, in the last two years alone, nearly 6,000 Postal Service employees have achieved a distinction most people never approach in their lifetimes – driving more than a million accident-free miles. No other business comes close. Driving for the Postal Service is a privilege. All drivers must demonstrate safe driving practices throughout their careers. National Security Council Customer Relations can be reached at 1-800-621-7691 and by email at uspsawards@nsc.org. |
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses, and relies on the sale of postage, products and service to fund its operations.
