BACKGROUND:

During the 9:15 a.m. opening ceremony of the Troy Strawberry Festival, the Troy Post Office will dedicate the 2017 Strawberries Stamp.

On May 5, 2017, the U.S. Postal Service issued Strawberries, a new 3-cent definitive stamp featuring an illustration of three ripe, red strawberries surrounded by leaves and hulls, and three smaller green strawberries in various stages of growth. A small white flower from the strawberry plant completes the picture. Art director Derry Noyes designed this stamp using an existing illustration by John Burgoyne, created with pen, ink, and watercolor.

A member of the New York Society of Illustrators and an alumni of the Massachusetts College of Art, Burgoyne has been drawing professionally since 1974. His hand-drawn artwork has been featured in National Geographic, Cooks Illustrated, Golf Digest and other publications.

The Strawberries 3-cent stamp is normally available in coils of 10,000 at Post Offices nationwide. Following the dedication ceremony, the Strawberries stamps will be available until noon in smaller number increments at the Troy Post Office, 305 S. Market St., Troy, OH 45373. The pictorial postmark commemorating the festival will also be made available during that time.

Those who wish to obtain the pictorial postmark through the mail may submit a mail-order request. Mail-order requests must be postmarked no later than July 3, 2017.

Requests must include a stamped envelope or postcard bearing at least the minimum First-Class $.49 postage or $.34 postcard postage. A self-addressed stamped envelope is required to return the commemoratively postmarked item(s).

Customers should affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in the flap.  Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to:

Troy Strawberry Festival Pictorial Postmark
Troy Post Office
305 S. Market St.
Troy, OH 45373

Customers may also send stamped envelopes and post-cards without addresses for postmark, as long as they supply a larger envelope with adequate postage and their return address. After applying the pictorial postmark, the Postal Service returns the items (with or without addresses) under addressed protective cover.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
