ALBERT, OK — The U.S. Postal Service has approved the relocation of the Albert, OK, Post Office from 104 Main Street to a yet to-be-determined location as reasonably possible to the existing location.

The Postal Service discussed the proposal at a February 7, 2017, public meeting and has carefully considered all of the concerns expressed in those discussions, as well as in appeals and comments received after the public meeting.

We are relocating this retail operation because the current landlord has declined to renew its present lease.  The Albert Post Office will be moving to a new space that suits our current requirements in this community.  The Postal Service’s goal is to select a new customer service location as close to the current site as possible.  Consideration will be given to sites that are convenient for customers and that will meet all postal operational needs.  We anticipate providing the same services at the new location as are currently provided to our customers at the existing location.  Additionally, the Postal Service plans to continue services at the existing Post Office until the replacement facility is open and operating as a Post Office.

While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Albert population, community input was properly considered and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives. Postal Service operations are not supported by tax dollars. To be self-sustaining, the Postal Service must make decisions that ensure it provides adequate and affordable postal services in a manner that is as efficient and economical as possible.

USPS does not receive tax dollars for its operations or facilities, but covers costs solely through the revenue received from the sale of its products and services.
