The Cave Junction Post Office is closed as a result of a fire that occurred at that facility early this morning. Postal customers who receive Post Office Box delivery through that facility may obtain their mail from the Selma Post Office, 18398 Redwood Hwy., starting today (Thursday, May 30, 2013).

All Cave Junction residents may also obtain USPS retail services at the Selma Post Office, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays (closed noon to 1 p.m. for lunch) and closed Saturdays. USPS retail services are also available at the O’Brien Post Office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and closed Saturdays. The address for the O’Brien Post Office is 33096 Redwood Hwy.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our customers because of these temporary service changes caused by the fire,” Cave Junction Postmaster Arlyse Deloyola said today. “We will be working with the community to restore all services in Cave Junction and we will regularly update our customers on any changes and progress.”

Postal customers who receive mail delivery at their home or business in Cave Junction will continue to receive that service, as usual. If Cave Junction delivery customers receive a notice for pickup of a package or letter requiring a signature, they will be directed to pick the item up at the Selma Post Office for the time being, Deloyola said.

Cave Junction postal customers are also encouraged to use online services at www.usps.com to purchase postage for packages or to order stamps by using a credit or debit card.

While authorities’ investigation into the fire is continuing, it is believed all mail inside the Cave Junction Post Office was destroyed in the fire that occurred sometime during Thursday’s early morning hours.

Customers who believe they may have had mail awaiting pickup at the Cave Junction Post Office before the fire occurred should contact the Selma Post Office for assistance, either by visiting the Selma Post Office or by calling 541-597-4851.
