PORTLAND – The United States Postal Service is currently accepting online applications for more than 400 Portland non-career job positions including City Carrier Assistants, Mail Handler Assistants, Postal Support Employees, Holiday City Carrier Assistants, Holiday Postal Support Employees, Holiday Casual Mail Handlers and Holiday Clerk Assistants.
Dates on which applications are accepted will vary depending on the positions offered. Details regarding each position’s duties are provided on the online job postings at usps.com/careers. Driving tests (if required), background checks and drug tests will be conducted.
Hourly wages for these positions range from $12.00 to $15.68 per hour. Applicants must be at least 18 years old or a high school graduate.
City Carrier Assistants, Mail Handler Assistants and Postal Support Employees hold temporary appointments for periods not to exceed 360 days. Subsequent appointments may be offered after a five-day break in service, but are not guaranteed and should not be expected.
The City Carrier Assistant, Mail Handler Assistant and Postal Support Employees positions are non-career positions, but may lead to a career position depending on organizational needs. Limited benefits include contractual pay raises and paid time off at the rate of one hour for every 20 paid hours.
The Holiday City Carrier Assistant, Holiday Casual Mail Handler, Holiday Clerk Assistant and Holiday Postal Support Employee positions will have a duration of between four and six weeks, with work expected to begin at the end of November. No benefits are included with these holiday non-career positions.
