The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service, will provide information on various ways to avoid being scammed to Portland Post Office customers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in recognition of National Consumer Protection Week.
The Portland Main Post Office is at 715 NW Hoyt St.
“We work hard all year long to make sure the sanctity of the mail is protected while in possession of the Postal Service during processing and delivery,” Portland Postmaster Shawneen Betha said.
“It is important that our customers make sure that they pick up the mail from their mailbox each day so that criminals won’t be tempted to steal their mail and attempt to use their information,” Betha added. “We all need to work together to keep the mail safe.”
U.S. Postal Inspectors will be host an information table Tuesday, where customers will be able to ask questions, obtain free consumer education materials and get the latest information from consumer protection experts. Other organizations participating in Tuesday’s event include the Social Security Administration, Federal Trade Commission, Oregon Department of Justice and City of Portland Crime Prevention Program.
