PENDLETON, Ore. – To celebrate 100 years of service to the community, the Pendleton Post Office, 104 SW Dorion Ave., will host a Customer Appreciation Day event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17.
Pendleton Postmaster Kerry Schwartz will offer light refreshments in celebration of the centennial of the Post Office’s opening back in 1916, as well as a special collectible postmark available to customers for use on cards and letters with First-Class postage stamps affixed.
Several dignitaries, including representatives from the Pendleton City Council, Pendleton Chamber of Commerce and Oregon State Bar Association are expected to be on hand for a brief 10 a.m. ceremony saluting the Post Office’s 100 years in its current building and 147 years overall serving Pendleton.

“This celebration is for all the customers who continue to rely on the Pendleton Post Office for their mailing services, as well as for all the dedicated employees who have served those customers from this location over the past 100 years,” Schwartz said.
The Postal Service began operating in Pendleton in 1869 in various buildings on Main Street. Construction of the current facility was completed on October 17, 1916, and included the Federal Courthouse.
The souvenir pictorial postmark features an elevation of the historic Post Office building and a ribbon reading: “Pendleton Post Office 100th Anniversary.” The special postmark will be applied at no charge on any stamped envelopes or cards customers bring in during Monday’s event. Postmarked items will serve as unique mementos of the celebration.
Customers can also request the postmark by mail; to obtain it, customers should provide self-addressed, stamped envelopes (or cards), place them inside another larger envelope, and address their requests to:

The deadline for requesting the 100th anniversary postmark is Nov. 16, 2016.
