PITTSBURGH, PA — Postal employees and officials from the Western PA District of the U.S. Postal Service, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), the American Postal Workers Union (APWU), and OSHA will join together to raise the Voluntary Protection Program’s Star Award flag at the Woods Run Carrier Annex on Thursday, December 3. The Woods Run Carrier Annex has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The recognition and flag raising ceremony will be held 8 a.m., Thursday, December 3 at the Woods Run Facility, 2840 New Beaver Avenue.
“A lot of hard work and cooperation by all of the employees went into the Woods Run facility achieving this recognition,” said Pittsburgh Postmaster Rocco D’Angelo. “I am very proud of everyone involved for achieving this major safety initiative.”
The facility employs approximately 60 workers consisting of letter carriers, mailhandlers, maintenance personnel, and management who collect, sort, and deliver U.S. and foreign mail. Companies that have been accepted into the VPP program represent more than 200 industries nationwide.
