Officials from the U.S. Postal Service will host a renaming ceremony for the Freedom Post Office. The Freedom Post Office, established in 1832, will be renamed in honor of John Scott Challis, Jr. a heroic and beloved teenager who succumbed to cancer last August.
The bill, sponsored by Congressman Altmire, passed the U.S. House or Representatives unanimously and will officially rename the postal facility located at 601 8th Street as the “John Scott Challis, Jr. Post Office.”
A special ceremony including elected and postal officials and family and friends will be held Monday, June 7 at 12 noon to unveil the official plaque that will be displayed at the Freedom Post Office.
