Canóvanas, PR — The US Postal Service and US Department of State are pleased to announce Canovanas Post Office as a new Passport Facility, accepting passport applications on behalf of the U. S. Department of State.

The Canovanas Post Office Passport Facility is open to the public for U.S. passport services from 11 AM to 3 PM (Atlantic Time), Tuesday, Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays, excluding federal holidays.

The Canovanas Passport Facility’s address is Belz Outlets, 18400 Carr 3 Suite 136, Canovanas PR  00729-9998.

“We are happy to leverage the convenience of the Postal Service and partner with the Department of State to help our customers apply for passports as well as offer passport photos,” said Martin Caballero, the Caribbean District’s Marketing Manager for the Postal Service.

A Grand Opening ceremony will take place on February 20, 2015 at 1 pm. Joining postal officials for the event will be Secretary of State of PR, the Canovanas Municipality Mayor, US Department of State’s Representatives.  The public is invited to attend.

U.S. citizens also may obtain passport information by phone, in English and Spanish, by calling the National Passport Information Center toll-free at 1-(877) 487-2778.

4 helpful tips for applying for a passport

  • Fill out the application (DS11), before coming to the Post Office — but don’t sign it
  • Bring proof of U.S. citizenship – provide one of the following:
    • Previous fully valid U.S. passport
    • Certified U.S. birth certificate
    • Consular report of birth abroad or birth certificate
    • Certificate of naturalization or citizenship
  • Proof of identity (one of these):
    • valid driver’s license, government employee identification, military identification
  • For children under age 16, both parents must be present
