PROVIDENCE RI — As an added convenience to postal customers, some Post Offices will be open from 12 noon until 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 22nd, to allow customers who received a notice to retrieve a parcel to pick up that parcel. The extended hours will offer customers more convenient times to pick up their holiday packages. Post Offices open on Sunday for this limited service include:

Attleboro Bristol
Woonsocket Pawtucket - Main Office
New Bedford Main Office Barrington
New Bedford - Mt Pleasant Pawtucket - Darlington
Fall River MO Wakefield
Fall River – Highland Westerly
Fall River – Somerset East Greenwich
Coventry Newport
Cumberland Newport - Middletown
West Warwick N Attleboro
North Kingstown

Postal officials note the decision reflects a national trend of increased packages in the mail and the preference of some customers to make that pickup ahead of what is traditionally the season’s busiest mailing days.

The expanded access is for package pick-up only. Window transactions in the lobby will not be available.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
