Background:

On April 21, 2014 the State Department launched a six month Customer Preference Pilot at some of their high performing acceptance facilities. The goal of this pilot is to optimize the customer experience at acceptance facilities.

During this pilot, the State Department is looking to identify best practices and learn what services are important to customers. Customers are offered the opportunity to respond to a survey designed to understand customer preferences about services at acceptance facilities.

The eight facilities participating in the pilot, including Providence Post Office, were chosen in part because they offer customer-friendly services including evening and/or weekend hours, photo services, and walk-ins.

The Providence Post Office is the state’s busiest postal passport location, having processed more than 7,000 of the 43,671 passports issued in all of RI last year.

Brenda Saunders Sprague joined the Bureau of Consular Affairs in the fall of 2008 as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Passport Services.  She leads the Department’s most visible public service program that employs more than 3,000 employees in 28 facilities nationwide.  In 2011, Federal Computer Week selected her as one of the Federal 100, an award reserved for the top executives from government, industry, and academia who have had the greatest impact on government information technology systems.
