William S. Davie, Jr. to be sworn in as Summerville Postmaster

Former Charleston Delivery Manager takes oath of office Sunday, April 11, 2010

William S. Davie, Jr., will be sworn in as the 26th Postmaster of Summerville, SC this Sunday, April 11, 2010. The event will take place at the Summerville Post Office, 301 N. Gum St. at 3:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. Mayor Berlin G. Myers will present the welcome address, the oath of office will be administered by H. Todd Lee, Lowcountry Manager of Post Office Operations. Friends, family and employees will take part in the ceremony.

Davie, an Ohio native who settled in Charleston after eight years of Navy service, began his career as a Rural Carrier at the N. Charleston Post Office. He progressed through the management ranks as a Delivery Supervisor and Station Manager in Charleston, serving as Station Manager at the Pinehaven and Cross County Branches.

Founded in 1835, the Summerville Post Office, and its Oakbrook Branch, have a total of 141 employees, including 87 delivery routes. The two offices collectively deliver 22 million pieces of mail annually.

“I am very proud to join the team that delivers the mail for the residents of Summerville,” said Davie. “Summerville is a great place, and the employees here work hard and love their customers.” Davie and his wife Bridget, have two daughters who attend college in the Charleston area.
