ADAMS RUN — Officer-In-Charge Lorrie May White and the employees of the Adams Run Post Office will welcome the community for Customer Appreciation Day at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010. Speakers will include White, retired Rural Carrier Rose Ann Baldwin, who will discuss local Postal history and SC District 116 Representative Robert L. Brown. A special presentation will be made followed by a reception.

“Rural communities have a special relationship with their Post Office,” said White, “this will be an opportunity to take time to meet to say, ‘thank you for your business’ on a personal basis with the customers we serve every day. Adams Run has had a Post Office for over 167 years, so we’re also going to acknowledge our rich history of valuable service.”

The Adams Run Post Office, 5190 Hwy 174, known as one of the most picturesque rural Post Offices in South Carolina, has served the Charleston County town since 1843. Adams Run has 6 employees, who deliver 905,632 pieces of mail annually to 1-1/2 rural routes with 679 deliveries and to 245 P.O. Box holders.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
