Pumpkin Festival postmark

The Pickens Post Office has been a regular participant in the Pickens Pumpkin Festival, issuing a special pictorial postmark with each year to commemorative the longstanding community event.  This year, newly appointed Postmaster Billy Pruett and his staff will offer a special collectible ‘cachet’ envelope in a protective plastic sleeve for $3 along with a postmark commemorating this year’s 32nd annual festival on Saturday, October 9th.

“This is a tradition we wouldn’t miss out on,” said Pruett, “it’s the pride of the community.  We’ll be selling stamps as well as the special commemorative envelopes, which will also be available at the Post Office.  We’ll have some prizes and surprises, and I’m looking forward to meeting folks and helping them with their mail and shipping needs, as well.”

The pictorial postmark service is free on Saturday, Oct. 9, but must be applied to items bearing First-Class postage.  After Oct. 9, the postmark may be ordered by mail for 30 days by sending stamped items with a self addressed, stamped envelope to Pumpkin Postmark, 110 Johnson St., Pickens, SC 29671-9998.  The envelope may also be ordered by sending a check for $3 to Pumpkin Envelope, 110 Johnson St., Pickens, SC 29671-9998.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
