Spartanburg Post Office to host installation ceremony for new Postmaster, Kevin Young

Employees and officials of the Greater South Carolina District will formally welcome Kevin Young, Spartanburg’s 29th Postmaster, with an installation ceremony on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. The event will take place at the Spartanburg Post Office, 250 S. Church St. Spartanburg 29306.

Speakers will include Mayor Junie White, Greater South Carolina Senior Post Office Operations Manager, James Dowell and District Manager (A), Gerald Roane, who will administer the oath of office.

Young replaced Postmaster Dave Becker, II, who recently retired after 37 years service, on March 24, 2012. He is the first African-American to hold the position.

Kevin A. Young, a native of Baltimore, began his Postal career as a temporary City Carrier in York, PA in 1989, after a 10-year career in the U. S. Marine Corps. He progressed through the ranks to advanced management positions in Columbus, GA and Columbia, SC. He is a graduate of Postal Headquarters’ Advanced Leadership and Career Management Programs. He is married, and has four grown children.
