Lutts Post Office destroyed by storms

LUTTS, TN — Tornadoes, strong winds and severe storms ripped across Middle Tennessee early Wednesday evening, causing the complete destruction of the Lutts Post Office, 8310 Lutts Road.

Fortunately, no employees were inside the building at the time of the impact. The Postal Inspection Service was dispatched to the area to secure the site.

Until further notice, Post Office Box customers can pick up their mail at the Collinwood Post Office, 101 4th Ave. South. Hours: 8:30-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturday.

In addition to Collinwood, retail services are available at these locations:

Full Retail

  • Cypress Inn Post Office, 2825 Big Cypress Road
  • Cloverdale (Ala.) Post Office, 11440 Highway 157
  • Iron City Post Office, 33 W. Second St.

Village Post Office

  • VPO Waterloo (Ala.), 19040 Highway 20
  • VPO Savannah, 7305 Highway 203

Stamps Only

  • Wal-Mart Supercenter, 175 Ji Bell Lane, Savannah, TN

As a reminder, Post Offices nationwide will be open Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, but many will shorten retail lobby hours and close at noon. Revised hours will be posted at each Post Office.

Post Offices will be closed Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday. All Post Offices will be open and regular mail delivery will resume Dec. 26.
