AUSTIN — The U.S. Postal Service has completed construction on a new building to serve the northwest community of the city. The new McNeil Station Post Office will open its doors to the public next week, on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
Located at 10109 Lake Creek Parkway; the new station will provide mail delivery for approximately 24,000 Postal Service customers in the 78717 and 78729 ZIP code delivery zones, previously served by Austin’s Balcones Station Post Office.
“Due to over crowding and space limitations at the Balcones Station, the move to the new station was necessary because of the significant population growth in this delivery area, as well as continued growth anticipated for this area of the city in the future” said Austin Postmaster Fina Morales.
The new McNeil Station Post Office has 1,026 post office boxes, using the 78717 ZIP code, available for rental to customers. Approximately 40 Postal Service employees work at the new station.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.
