The Georgetown Post Office facility will be renamed the “Kile G. West Post Office Building.”

BACKGROUND:
On Memorial Day, May 28, 2007, Army 1st Lt. Kile G. West was killed in action in Abu Sayda, Iraq while serving his country attempting to rescue the flight crew of a downed aircraft. For his heroic actions that day, West was awarded The Army Bronze Star for Heroism and The Purple Heart.

The U.S. Post Office building in Georgetown became the "Kile G. West Post Office Building" as a result of legislation sponsored by U.S. Congressman John Carter, representing the 31st Congressional District of Texas.

1st Lt. West was a member of the U.S. Army 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX. He is survived by mother Nanette West and companion Rodney Carr; father Grady West and wife Melissa; sisters Kelli and Kara West, and brother, Carter West.
