Flooding Affects Mail Delivery for Some Del Rio Postal Customers

July 07, 2010

DEL RIO, TX — Due to flooding caused by recent heavy rain fall and the release of water from Lake Amistad, the Del Rio Post Office has been forced to temporarily suspend mail delivery to about 80 homes in the Vega Verde Addition on HCR 2.

“In locations where roads are impassable or unsafe for travel due to flooding, mail delivery services will be temporarily curtailed until normal conditions are restored,” said Postmaster Robert Anderson. “Those customers in the affected area who are unable to receive mail delivery may pick up their mail at the Del Rio Main Post Office, 2001 Bedel Ave., during normal business hours.”

Customers can call the Postal Service’s toll-free number 800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777) or the TTY number 877-TTY-2HLP (877-889-2457) for help with any postal questions they may have.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
