VICTORIA, TX – As a result of a study begun in September 2010, the Postal Service has made the decision to move all mail processing operations from the Victoria, TX Customer Service Mail Processing Center (CSMPC) to the Corpus Christi, TX Processing and Distribution Center (P&DC). Once the transfer of operations is completed, the Victoria CSMPC will be closed. Local mail service will not be affected by the move.
Rio Grande District Manager Manuel Arguello said, “Given the decline in mail volume the Postal Service has experienced, with a decline of 43.1 billion pieces in the past five years -- from an all-time high of 213 billion in 2006, to 170 billion in 2010 -- we must take action to reduce the size of our mail processing network. Consolidating operations and placing our people where we need them is necessary if the Postal Service is to remain viable to provide mail service to the nation.”
“I understand our employees’ concern over this move,” Arguello added, “but the consolidation makes sense given the fiscal realities. The Corpus Christi P&DC has the capacity to handle the additional workload and we can realize significant savings by shifting operations there.”
The transition will be completed by July 2011. Affected career employees will be reassigned to the Corpus Christi P&DC or to other vacant positions.
“I am confident the transition will be smooth and transparent to our customers and they will continue to receive the same excellent service they always have,” said Arguello.
Retail service for purchasing stamps and other postal products will continue to be available at all Victoria Post Office locations.
The Business Mail Entry Unit, located at the Victoria Main Post Office, 312 S. Main St., will continue to provide acceptance of large volume business mail.
