SAN ANTONIO, TX — The U.S. Postal Service today recognized USAA with its Corporate Business Achievement Award for the company’s commitment to a successful business partnership with the Postal Service. A select group of postal customers is acknowledged and recognized for their contributions to the continued success of the mailing industry at the annual National Postal Forum.
The Corporate Business Achievement Award, one of three “best in class” awards presented annually at the Forum, recognizes customers who have used postal products and services to deliver value and to help strengthen and grow their businesses. They are committed to producing winning results and these awards honor that commitment.
Corporate Business Achievement Award winners were handpicked by the United States Postal Service Headquarters’ Officers. This year, the Corporate Business Achievement Award was divided into categories that best describe the company’s achievement. From global alliances to collaboration on a smaller scale, the U.S. Postal Service values its business partnerships.
In 1922, USAA was started by military personnel for other members of the military, because auto insurers considered service personnel too great a risk. Today, USAA is a financial services group of companies that provides integrated solutions, offering a wide range of investments, banking, insurance and financial advice to those who have honorably served in the U.S. military, and their eligible family members.
USAA is committed to providing integrated financial solutions to its members in their channel of choice, whether it is through industry leading mobile phone applications, usaa.com, or through mail services. A close partnership with the U.S. Postal Service allows USAA to cost-effectively serve members through the mail. Notably, the USPS was an important partner in efforts to notify veterans that USAA had expanded eligibility to include anyone who has ever honorably served in the U.S. military. USAA’s new eligibility guidelines advanced its mission to serve the entire military, and called for a new level of outreach using mail and other channels.
Additionally, collaboration between USAA Corporate Services and USPS top management during customer meetings and their monthly meetings with their local strategic account manager helped USAA employ their innovative strategies. USAA took advantage of the many products and services offered such as Intelligent Mail barcodes and improved address accuracy to minimize undeliverable mail and contain postage expense; Five-Digit Discounts for sorting First-Class Mail at the five-digit zip code level and Business Reply Mail discounts; Network Distribution Center routing for reduced postage costs, and mailpiece design innovation that has produced cost-effective mailings and reduced overall expense.
Also, USAA is now printing all self-produced marketing materials on a minimum of 10% recycled paper. USAA is committed to using cost-effective business tools and innovation for the long term and for the benefit of our membership. USPS continues to be an important partner in our mission to serve our members, the men and women of the U.S. military.
USAA was nominated for this award by Postal Service Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Joe Corbett.
“We are pleased to recognize and honor USAA for its innovation, creativity and leadership,” said Corbett. “By their innovative strategies, USAA took advantage of many Postal Service products and services to produced cost-effective mailings and reduced overall expenses. USAA has produced winning business results and supported the mailing industry.”
The National Postal Forum is the mailing industry’s largest trade show and networking event for industry professionals. A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. Black Enterprise and Hispanic Business magazines ranked the Postal Service as a leader in workforce diversity. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency six consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
