AUSTIN, TX — Austin’s new Downtown Station Post Office will open for business on Wednesday, January 2. In September, the U.S. Postal Service announced selection of the site for a new 7,118-square-foot postal facility, to be located at 823 Congress Ave. (at 9th St.). The new postal station will provide full postal retail services and house PO boxes for postal customers with ZIP codes 78767 and 78768.
The current Austin Downtown Station facility was sold earlier this year with provisions made to continue operations at the 510 Guadalupe St. location until a suitable alternative location could be negotiated. The 510 Guadalupe St. Post Office location will close permanently at 5:30 p.m., on Dec. 27, in order to complete the move to the new Downtown Station Post Office location over the extended New Year’s Day holiday weekend. The facility will be locked at 12 midnight, on Dec. 27, and PO box mail will not be available until the opening of the new Downtown Station on Jan. 2.
Hours of operation for the new Downtown Station Post Office, will remain the same, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, closed Saturday and Sunday.
In September, mail delivery operations for Downtown Austin residential and business customers within the 78701 ZIP code area were moved to the South Congress Station Post Office.
