Automated Postal Centers Debut at Pleasant Grove and Lehi Post Offices

Kiosks Make Mailing Convenient and 24/7

September 28, 2010

PLEASANT GROVE/LEHI, Utah — Just in time for the busy holiday mailing season, Automated Postal Centers have been installed at the Pleasant Grove and Lehi Post Offices to expand customer service beyond traditional Post Office hours. The machines enable customers to purchase stamps, and weigh and mail cards and packages 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Automated Postal Centers provide easy access to postal products and services just as ATMs provide easy access to banking services, but without the fees,” said Pleasant Grove Postmaster Bryan Noorda.

Clerks in each office will help guide customers through the process of using the Automated Postal Centers.

Automated Postal Centers do not accept cash, only debit or credit cards to dispense stamps and postage in any amount for Express Mail, Priority Mail, First-Class Mail and Parcel Post services. They also provide mailing information, ZIP Code lookup, Certified and Insured Mail, Return Receipt, Delivery Confirmation and other services.

“Automated Postal Centers enable our customers to conduct business with us at their convenience,” said Lehi Postmaster Jesse Carillo.

The Automated Postal Center employs a touch screen and numeric keypad for customers to select products and services and receive postal information. A convenient parcel slot next to the Automated Postal Center accepts packages up to 12 inches high by 14 inches deep by 20 inches wide.

“Those customers who have tried it, love it,” said Carillo.

Automated Postal Centers can be found in most Salt Lake metro area Post Offices, two Ogden Post Offices – Ben Lomond and Mount Ogden; and Post Offices in American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Orem, Provo Layton, Roy, Logan and St. George.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
