PROVO, UT — Five Provo, UT, Postal Carriers were recently inducted into the prestigious National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club for 30 years of accident-free driving on the job. In total, the five carriers represent 150 years of safe driving.

Provo City Carriers Neil Bushman, Jill Hansen, Warren Prete, Ron Lyons and Rural Carrier Hilma Grinsell each received a Million Mile Club plaque from Provo Postmaster Rick Brandon and USPS District Manager Darrell Stoke at a recent ceremony with coworkers at the Provo Post Office. The Million Mile Club award is presented to drivers who have driven one-million miles or 30 years of driving without being involved in a preventable motor vehicle accident.

“Our carriers deliver the mail in all kinds of weather and face daily hazards on their routes,” said Brandon. “So for these carriers to have each driven a million miles without a preventable accident is a tremendous achievement. They stand as a great example not only to our workforce, but to drivers everywhere.”

The nation’s 31,000 plus Post Offices are linked by nearly 212,000 vehicles – the world largest civilian fleet.  Nearly 300,000 letter carriers and truck drivers log more than 1.2 billion miles annually when delivering to America’s 155 million addresses.

“The USPS is proud of its tremendous safety record and equally proud of postal employees who daily provide excellent customer service, while safeguarding themselves and the neighborhoods they serve,” said Brandon.
