VIRGINIA BEACH, VA—To increase convenience and access to postal services, two new Contract Postal Units (CPUs) offering nearly all postal services have opened in Virginia Beach. They are Budget Travel, 1143 Independence Boulevard (north of Haygood Road) and J9 Shoppe, in the Timberlake Shopping Center. CPUs are retail units operated for the Postal Service by a private sector individual or company and provide nearly all postal retail services to customers. This brings the total of CPUs in Virginia Beach to four, with a fifth, Woodstock Shell at the corner of Indian River and Providence Roads, opening after the first of the year.
“Most postal products and services are available at CPUs, including postage stamps, Express Mail® and Priority Mail® service, packaging products and more,” said Richmond District Retail Specialist Kris Lydon. “Our CPUs, online services at www.usps.com, and Automated Postal Service (self-service kiosks) throughout the city ensure postal services are available to mailers 24 hours a day.”

Each CPU’s final daily mail dispatch time varies, and mailers should check with a location for the cut-off time to meet the dispatch. Mail accepted after the cut-off time will be dispatched the next business day.
The Automated Postal Centers (APCs) are located in six Virginia Beach post offices. These are self-service kiosks at which mailers can weigh and rate packages, purchase and print postage, and purchase stamps, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Those locations are:
