Local dedication of Civil Rights Pioneers stamps at the Virginia NAACP Area II annual breakfast

WHY:
The sheet of six stamps immortalizes the courage, commitment and achievements of 12 civil rights leaders, featuring a photographic montage pairing two pioneers in each stamp. Two of the pioneers featured are founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), and three others were NAACP officials.

In conjunction with the Virginia NAACP Area II branch, the Postal Service will locally dedicate the new Civil Rights Pioneers stamps sheet as the Area II branch celebrates the NAACP’s 100th anniversary at its annual breakfast. The NAACP Area II branch encompasses Chesapeake, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach. Each chapter will be making a special presentation on the various aspects and achievements of the NAACP during the last 100 years.

DETAILS:
Participating in the stamp dedication are Chesapeake Postmaster Kenneth Carlton; NAACP Area II Chesapeake chapter president John Hines and first vice president Helena Dodson.
