Post Offices Adjust Hours for the Holiday Season

Most area Post Offices to close at noon on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve

MERRFIELD VA — Northern Virginia Post Offices will be adjusting operational hours for the Christmas and New Years holidays as follows:

Delivery Operations

  • All post offices will provide normal delivery services on Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31.
  • There will be no delivery Saturday, December 25 or Saturday, January 1 except for Premium Express Mail Service.
  • Normal delivery operations resume Monday, January 3.

Post Office Retail Operations

  • Customer traffic at postal retail counters decreases significantly the day before Christmas and New Years holiday. All retail units will close at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31 with the exception of the Merrifield retail unit which will close at 5:00 PM.
  • All retail units will be closed on Saturday, December 25th and Saturday, January 1
  • To assist customers with their holiday mailing needs, many retail units will extend hours during the holiday season:

  • Normal retail hours resume Monday, January 3, 2011.

Collection Operations

  • The last collection box pick-up times on Friday, December 24 and Friday, December 31 will be 12:00 noon with the exception of the Merrifield Post Office. The collection boxes located at Merrifield Post Office will picked-up at 5:00 PM.
  • There will be no collections on Saturday, December 25 or Saturday, January 1.
  • Normal collections resume Monday, January 3.

Bulk Mail Entry Units

  • Bulk Mail Entry Units (BMEU) will be open from 10:00AM through 4:00PM Thursday, December 23 and will be closed Friday, December 24 and Saturday, December 25.
  • Bulk Mail Entry Units (BMEU) will be open from 10:00AM through 4:00PM Thursday, December 30. The BMEU will be closed Friday, December 31 and Saturday, January 1.
  • Normal BMEU operations resume Monday January 3.
