ROANOKE, VA — The Roanoke Main Post Office, located at 419 Rutherford Ave. NE, invites the public to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an open house featuring representatives from Lewis Gale Breast Center, Lourine’s Breast Prosthesis & Wigs, American Cancer Society, Carilion Clinic Breast Care Center and the U.S. Postal Service.

Light refreshments will be served as the Roanoke Post Office honors breast cancer survivors during its Breast Cancer Awareness event Thursday, Oct. 20, from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

Nearly 250,000 women and 1,990 men in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and nearly 40,000 of those will die from the disease.

The Postal Service is helping raise awareness concerning breast cancer through the sale of the Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamps. Since July 1998, the stamp has raised $82.9 for breast cancer research programs.
