RICHMOND, VA — The Postal Service will commemorate Total Solar Eclipse 2017 at the Science Museum of Virginia, located at 2500 W Broad Street.
This Monday, Aug. 21, from noon to 4 p.m., the Postal Service will offer Total Eclipse of the Sun Forever stamps for sale and offer a special pictorial postmark to commemorate the astronomical phenomenon. The first-of-its-kind Total Eclipse of the Sun Forever stamps use thermochromic ink to transform the image of an eclipse into an image of the moon when the heat of your finger is applied to it.
“This is one of the most exciting stamps that the Postal Service has ever released,” said Richmond District Manager Scott Bower. “A simple touch with your finger can replicate the extraordinary experience of a solar eclipse.”
Customers can request the special pictorial postmark free-of-charge by mail for 30 days after the event by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope containing the letter or envelope they wish to have cancelled to Postmaster, Richmond Post Office, 1801 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23232-9998 or Postmaster, Moon Station, 184 Haven Beach Road, Moon, VA 23119-9998.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
