VIRGINIA —The Postal Service will participate in the Eclipse Viewing Party for the upcoming Solar Eclipse at the Science Museum, located at 225 W Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23220.
On Monday, August 21, from noon to 4 p.m. the Postal Service will offer stamps for sale and provide a special postmark of the recently issued Total Eclipse of the Sun Forever stamp. The first-of-its-kind Forever stamp used thermochromic ink to transform the image of an eclipse into an image of the moon when you press your finger on it.
This stamp image is a photograph taken by retired NASA astrophysicist Fred Espenak of Portal, AZ, who is considered by many to be world’s leading authority on total solar eclipses with 27 under his belt. The photograph shows a total solar eclipse seen from Jalu, Libya, on march 29, 2006.
We encourage all those in the community to come out and buy a sheet of the Total Eclipse of the Sun Forever Stamp and receive the special Postmark.
Customers can request the special postmark free-of-charge by mail for 30 days after the event by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope containing the letter or envelope they wish to be cancelled to Postmaster, Richmond Post Office, 1801 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23232-9998 or Postmaster, Moon Station, 184 Haven Beach Road, Moon, VA 23119-9998.
The Postal Service received no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of post age, products and serviced to fund its operations.
