Tomorrow, Nov. 29, 2017, Joseph F. Thekkekara will follow a proud tradition dating back to when Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General of the United States. Thekkekara will raise his right hand to take the official oath of office as the new Richmond Postmaster during an installation ceremony in the Old House Chamber at the State Capitol of Virginia. Capital Metro Area Vice President of Operations Linda Malone will administer the official oath of office. Thekkekara’s most recent position was Postmaster of Midland, TX. He has also served as Postmaster of Mundelein, Carol Stream and Elmhurst in Illinois and as Postmaster of Stony Point, Briarcliff Manor and Garnerville in New York. He started his postal career in 1988 as a letter carrier in Pearl River, NY. The Richmond Main Post Office is located at 1801 Brook Road. As Postmaster, Thekkekara manages all postal operations for the city of Richmond, encompassing 21 ZIP Code areas, nearly 300,000 delivery points and more than 800 employees. The event is open to the public. An RSVP is required. Please call Roxana Toman at 804-775-6392. Following the installation ceremony, a reception will be held in House Room One. Mr. Thekkekara will respond to questions from the public and the media at that time. |
