Burlington, VT — The Postal Service observes Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 as a holiday. All post offices will be closed. There will be no regular mail delivery, except for Priority Express Mail.

But some post offices which have Self-Service Kiosks (SSKs), formerly known as Automated Postal Centers (APCs), provide mailing services to customers using a credit or debit card 24-hours a day, 365 days a year.

“Customer surveys reveal that many residential customers have never used an SSK,” Postal Service spokesman Tom Rizzo said, “so we are making an extra effort to reach out and let them know they can conduct postal business even on the holiday. First-time users tell us that they appreciated a postal employee showing them how easy it is to use and many actually moved from being non-users to frequent SSK users.”

Self-Service Ship & Mail Centers are as simple to use as a bank ATM and provide mailing and shipping services as well as ZIP Code look-ups.

In Vermont, the Champlain Station Post Office at 370 Shelburne Road, Burlington has a 24-hour APC in its lobby.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
