Montpelier, VT — Close to 500 million foreign travelers visited European destinations in 2016 according to the World Tourism Organization, that’s 4% percent more than the prior year — and the U.S. Postal Service is ready to prepare travelers for such future excursions.
To make it easier to apply for a U.S. Passport, the following offices will offer extended days and hours for passport processing in April. A postal clerk can even take your picture if you don’t have one.
West Dover Post Office at 2A Mountain Park Plaza will be open on Thursday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Derby Line Post office at 84 main St. will be open the week of April 17-21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fairlee Post Office at 21 School St. will be open on Tuesday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Rutland Post Office at 151 West St. will be open April 18-20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Burlington Post Office at 11 Elmwood Ave. will be open April 19-21 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Brattleboro Post Office at 204 Main St. will be open Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Pawlet Post Office at 5707 VT RTE 30 will be open Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Swanton Post Office at 21 Grand Ave. will be open Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Middlebury Post Office at 10 Main St. will be open on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Alburgh post Office at 12 S Main St. will be open on Wednesday, April 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shaftsbury Post Office at 56 Church St. will be open on Friday, April 28, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.. to 2 p.m.
And Waterbury Post Office will be open on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
No appointment is necessary, just walk in.
Pawlet Officer-in-Charge Jennifer McDermott says “With routine passport processing times of six weeks, it’s never too early to start planning for that next vacation. And we’re here to help.” She also cites USPS.com as an excellent resource for getting passport paperwork and locating other acceptance facilities across the nation.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
