MALONE — The United States Postal Service will open the nation’s first Village Post Office (VPO) in Red’s Hop In Mart, 5397 State Route 12 in Malone WA 98559 with a ribbon cutting event on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m.

The Malone Post Office, 5391 State Route 12, will discontinue operations at the close of business on Tuesday, Aug. 9. VPOs are a new concept for the Postal Service and will be considered in communities which have no post office or lose their post office.

Seattle District Manager Katherine Nash will preside over the opening event at the Malone VPO.

“I’m very pleased we will have the first Village Post Office in the country here in the Seattle District,” Nash said. “The VPO will be a welcome asset to our customers in Malone.”
