COUGAR, WA — To celebrate 75 years of service to the community, the Cougar Post Office, 16745 Lewis River Rd., will host a Customer Appreciation Day event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Cougar Post Office Clerk Tina Moir will offer light refreshments in celebration of the diamond anniversary of the Post Office’s opening back in 1941.

In addition, Moir expects several former Cougar postal employees, including her uncle and cousin, who both served as Postmasters in Cougar, to be in attendance for Thursday’s event.

“The Postal Service has been ‘in my blood’ for generations,” Moir said. “It’s going to be wonderful to celebrate the anniversary and hear customers and former Postmasters from my family share their memories on this special day.”

Moir is also offering a special pictorial postmark featuring the image of a wild cougar to commemorate the anniversary. The special postmark will be applied for free on any stamped envelopes or cards customers bring in during Thursday’s event. Postmarked items will serve as unique mementos of the celebration.

Customers can also request the postmark by mail; to obtain it, customers should provide self-addressed, stamped envelopes (or cards), place them inside another larger envelope and address their requests to:

COUGAR 75 POSTMARK
PO BOX 9998
COUGAR WA 98616-9998

The deadline for requesting the 75th anniversary postmark is Sept. 4, 2016.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
