Lakeland District Post Offices Open until Noon on Upcoming Dates

Noon Set as Final Collection for Blue Collection Boxes

December 16, 2010

Release No.  10-14

MILWAUKEE, WI – Most retail counters at Lakeland District Post Offices in cities and towns with 498 through 549 ZIP Codes will be open until Noon on Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24 and New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31.  However, mail will be delivered as usual on those days.  All Post Offices will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  Regular mail delivery will resume and Post Offices will reopen on Monday, December 27 and Monday, January 3.

All Post Offices will have signs posted indicating their holiday retail hours.

The last collection for mail deposited in most blue collection boxes is Noon.  For those who still have cards and packages to send, the United States Postal Service® will continue to make deliveries by Express Mail®, even on Christmas Day.

With Express Mail, customers can get free insurance for up to $100 against loss or damage,” said Lakeland District Manager Karen Schenck.  “We even provide signature proof of delivery upon request along with tracking information.”

All available Express Mail, Priority Mail and holiday packages will be delivered on Christmas Eve Day.  Express Mail is delivered 365 days a year.  “Only Santa and the Postal Service will cheerfully deliver those last-minute, must-haves packages to family, friends and acquaintances on Christmas Day,” said Schenck.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no direct support from taxpayers. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 28th in the 2009 Fortune 500.
