MILWAUKEE, WI — The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Postal Service and PROSHRED will kick-off National Consumer Protection Week by hosting a free Shred Day Event on Tuesday, March 4.

Consumers and businesses are invited to stop by the Milwaukee Main Post Office at 345 West St. Paul Avenue from 9 a.m. to 12 noon to shred their unwanted documents. Limit three reasonably sized boxes/bags per person. Customers may drive up and park in the customer lot of the Main Post Office. They will then have their shredding material placed into a movable bin and be invited inside.

“We are pleased to partner with the Postal Inspection Service to help our customers discard unwanted documents safely and securely,” said Milwaukee Postmaster Easton Wright. “This is an easy way for customers to go through their old files and shred unwanted documents.”

During the event, representatives from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service will be available to answer questions about consumer protection scams and Identity Theft.  “This year we’re focusing on sweepstakes scams and want to help customers know what is a legitimate sweepstakes and what is not,” said Postal Inspector Brian Haraway. “An educated public is the first line of defense and that’s why we are here – to help people become better consumers.”

The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for six years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
