WHEATLAND — Evacuations and road closures have forced the Postal Service to stop delivery to more than 50 homes due to the spread of the Britania Moutain Fire. The homes are located in Palmer Canyon, Fletcher Park and Granite Park.
All mail destined for these addresses is available for pickup at the Wheatland Post Office, located at 852 Walnut Ave. until further notice.
“Your mail is safe with us and we hold it until all of us are allowed back into the area,” said Postmaster Christy Downes. “I encourage everyone to sign up for Informed Delivery so they can manage their incoming mail.”
Informed Delivery is a free USPS service that allows postal customers to digitally preview their mail and manage packages scheduled to arrive.
After signing up at www.InformedDelivery.com, you’ll get a daily email that shows greyscale images of the exterior address side of letter-sized mailpieces and also tracks incoming packages.
Future delivery decisions will be made after consulting with local emergency managers.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
