Compliance with this MI is essential to operational and financial control of lease trailer damages. Postal Service lease trailer contracts include terms and conditions for trailer damage that may occur through negligent acts of Postal Service employees or its agents that allow the supplier to file a claim for the actual cost of returning the trailer to its pre-damaged condition. Transportation site managers and the COR(s) must ensure trailer damages are validated and documented before payments are issued to suppliers and avoid or recover excess daily trailer lease rate payments for out-of-service trailers.
