The City of Philadelphia is the 5th most populous city in the United States with a population of 1.5 million.  The consumer base includes many large complex center city businesses, universities and hospitals. The Post Office is considered the cornerstone of the community it serves. Consequently, the Postmaster position carries many responsibilities. As the Postal Service has evolved, the job has become more complex.

“In today’s business environment, a Postmaster needs to be able to work with our customers, maintain our retail and delivery operations, and manage our complex network of employee programs,” said Herrick. “Mike is well qualified to fulfill the role and is an asset to the Postal Service and to the community he serves.”

The Philadelphia Post Office was established in 1827.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
