SAN ANTONIO, TX — The winter storm that brought freezing rain, sleet and snow to much of Central Texas has affected road conditions throughout much of the area.

The Postal Service makes every reasonable effort to deliver mail in many difficult weather conditions. We are currently monitoring road conditions in the affected areas.  Decisions regarding mail delivery service will be made on a location-by-location basis, depending on the severity of conditions.  Safety is the primary concern for the Postal Service.  Keeping employees and customers safe is our most important goal.

Ice is particularly dangerous on steps and any walking surface, especially painted wood or concrete, such as stoops and porches. Postal customers can help by keeping sidewalks and paths clear for letter carriers to perform their services safely.

Customers with questions or comments about their mail service can call toll-free 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) or send an e-mail to the Postal Service by clicking on Customer Service at the bottom of the Postal Service’s www.usps.com home page.

The Postal Service website also hosts USPS Service Alerts that detail service disruptions due to weather-related and other natural disasters or events. Service alerts are posted in near real time and guide residential consumers on such questions as “Will I receive mail delivery?” and “Is my Post Office open?”

Find Service Alerts at: http://about.usps.com/news/service-alerts/welcome.htm.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
