Lobby Scale Update Information

Headquarters will fund updated fan scale overlays for mechanical scales that are still being used at Post OfficesTM. The rate changes planned for January 2006 drive the need to update these lobby scales with the new rates. The overlays for the models listed here are supported for this rate case based on field requests and the order volume from the June 2000 rate case.

The fan scale overlays are not ready to be shipped at this time. Orders can be placed and the overlays will be shipped as they are received. Until the updated overlay is received, these scales must be taken out of service when the new rates are implemented on January 8, 2006.

Employees may requisition items as follows:

• Use touch tone order entry by calling 800-332-0317, option 2.

• Submit PS Form 7380, MDC Supply Requisition, to the Material Distribution Center.

PS Form 7380 is available on the Postal ServiceTM PolicyNet Web site:

• Go to http://blue.usps.gov.

• Under "Essential Links" in the left-hand column, click on References.

• Under "References" in the right-hand column, under "Policies," click on PolicyNet.

• Click on Forms.

Leave the price blank as the face plates are funded by Headquarters for this rate change. Be sure to include your FEDSTRIP number for shipping purposes.

An updated overlay can be ordered for the following scales:

As stated in Postal Bulletin 22027 (6-29-00, page 62) there are no spare parts, training, or maintenance for mechanical scales in the field. All mechanical scales must be removed from service prior to the next rate case. Future orders of overlays will not be supported.

What's in Store

A strong retail base

New point-of-purchase (POP) signage is on display in Post OfficesTM, and the new base kits have been distributed to all offices. The POP elements are to be displayed through June 30. They're designed to drive revenue increases at retail by delivering targeted messages for key products. And, while base kits will be distributed twice a year - not every 3 to 4 months like during previous drive periods - additional promotion materials will be coming your way throughout the year.

Be sure to follow your signage guide for proper placement of POP materials. Go to blue.usps.gov/advertising to learn more about the new base kits.

Price changes ahead

New rates and fees go into effect Jan. 8. Post Offices have received rate change/continuity kits that include menuboards, writing table decals, a self-service poster, stamp stickers for the Automated Postal Centers®, and additional materials - all updated with the new rates. There's also a guide for eliminating outdated POP elements.

Be sure to save your Continuity POP Catalog. It's your reference guide for ordering continuity POP elements from the Material Distribution Center.
