Notice 122-A, Instructions to Initiate an Inquiry for International Mail

Notice 122-A, Instructions to Initiate an Inquiry for International Mail, is now available. An image of Notice 122-A appears below.

Notice 122-A provides written instructions to mailers on how to make inquiries on all international products and services. The primary instruction is that mailers must call the International Inquiry Center at 800-222-1811 - they no longer need to complete PS Form 542, Inquiry About a Registered Article or an Insured Parcel or an Ordinary Article, which is now obsolete. (See the article about PS Form 542 on the next page.)

There will be an initial national distribution of Notice 122-A to all retail offices.

Notice 122-A is available on the Postal ServiceTM PolicyNet Web site:

• Go to http://blue.usps.gov.

• Under "Essential Links" in the left-hand column, click on References.

• Under "References" in the right-hand column, under "Policies," click on PolicyNet.

• Click on Notices.

Notice 122-A is also available on the Postal Service Internet:

• Go to www.usps.com.

• Click on About USPS & News, then Forms & Publications, then Postal Periodicals and Publications, and then Notices.

When Notice 122-A becomes available from the Material Distribution Center (MDC), we will publish the ordering information in a Postal Bulletin article.

OBSOLETE FORM

PS Form 542, Inquiry About a Registered Article or an Insured Parcel or an Ordinary Article

PS Form 542, Inquiry About a Registered Article or an Insured Parcel or an Ordinary Article, is obsolete.

The new international inquiry and claims process requires that a customer must call the International Inquiry Center at 800-222-1811 to initiate an inquiry for all international products and services - i.e., for Global Express Guaranteed® service, Global Express Mail® service, registered letter post, recorded delivery, and insured or ordinary parcel post.
