REMINDER
New International Destinations: The Republic of the Marshall Islands and the
Federated States of Micronesia
The Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Federated
States of Micronesia are international destinations. As part
of an agreement negotiated between the United States
government and the two former United States Trust Territories, mail destined to these two countries now uses the
international rate schedules listed in the International Mail
Manual (IMM).
Three international services are not offered for mail destined to these two countries: Global Express Guaranteed
(GXG), Global Priority Mail (GPM), and International
Surface Air Lift (ISAL). These services require special
transportation arrangements, which are not presently available, but services may be offered in the future. Also, the
following special services are not available: insurance, international business reply service, international money
orders, international reply coupons, recorded delivery,
registered mail, restricted delivery, and return receipt.
Mail for these destinations must be prepared based on
the standards in the IMM, including the addressing standards in IMM 120.
Following is a review of the conditions for mailing to the
Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Federated States
of Micronesia. The conditions are the same for both
countries.
Note: The Republic of the Marshall Islands includes
Ebeye, Kwajalein, and Majuro. The Federated States of Micronesia include Chuuk (Truk), Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap.
