Keep Personal and Corporate Data Secure

Do you know where your sensitive data is? This includes personal information about our customers and employees and confidential business data about the Postal ServiceTM, our partners, and suppliers.

Many of us carry sensitive data on our laptops, flash drives, CDs, and DVDs - and paper too. The loss or theft of such information could put a person's identity at risk or put business information in the wrong hands.

Do your part to prevent the theft of sensitive data. Information Technology and the Chief Privacy Officer have tips for every employee to make sure it doesn't happen.

Do not collect sensitive data unless you have a need for it in your job, and use it only for its intended purpose. Avoid storing sensitive data if you don't need to, especially on laptops and removable media like CDs or memory sticks. Don't take sensitive materials with you unless you're authorized to do so. Keep hard copies of sensitive data under lock and key - shred them when you're finished with them.

Always lock your workstation when you step away, even for only a few minutes. It's easy to do - press the Windows function key and "L" at the same time. If you use a laptop, always keep it in a secure place and use a cable lock.

It's every employee's responsibility to keep our personal and corporate data secured against theft, loss, and malicious use. Violations can result in personal liability and management investigations.
