IMM REVISION

Tabbing Letter-Post Mailpieces

Effective August 3, 2006, we are revising the International Mail Manual (IMM) to reflect a change in the tabbing requirements for letter-post mailpieces placed in direct country sacks for International Priority AirmailTM (IPA) and International Surface Air Lift (ISAL) mailings.

The following packaging methods may be used when entering letter-post items:

c. Except as provided in 292.4 and 293.9, folded mailpieces, without envelopes, are admissible provided that all of the open sides are secured with tape, tabs, or wafer seals of sufficient quantity and strength to prevent the mailpieces from opening or being damaged during postal handling.

Mail that is sent via the IPA service may be sealed at the sender's option. See 244.4 for the packaging methods that are applicable to all letter-post items.

Exception: For direct country sacks only, letter-post folded mailpieces, without envelopes, are admissible provided one of the following methods is used:

1. All of the open sides are secured with tape, tabs, or wafer seals of sufficient quantity and strength to prevent the mailpieces from opening or being damaged during postal handling.

2. The mailpieces meet the physical standards and tabbing requirements in DMM 201.3.

REMINDER

Global Express Mail Country Codes

Effective with the publication of International Mail Manual (IMM) Issue 33, we revised the Individual Country Listings for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Faroe Islands, and Serbia-Montenegro to reflect new country codes for Global Express Mail items.
